  • I was Fighting that fire With station 62 and that one thing i will never forget since I quite the fire department .it was a really bad fire and we heard the mayday come over the radio.those words I do not ever want to hear aging .

  • it was 4" hose there was only one guy on it and way back in the day when they had it built it was desiged to have a portable monitor . so it was ment to have it on there. the ladder had reguler inspection on it. and it was just a freak accedent.

  • Luckily the ladder was extended over the cab, had it been turned to the side when it failed the truck may have tipped over

  • @troybuzzell Point well taken! Have a nice Memorial Day!

  • Well, I think you are on track, but when was the last time you saw 5" hoes suppying the monitor on a ladder??? hint: never. It's usually 3". 100' of 5" Hose holds how many pounds of H2O future DE's? add that to the nozzle reaction of the monitor, and the low angle and this ladder and I'll bet they tripled the tip load for the rated angle, elevation, and application. Stay safe, train hard.

  • Sorry to see it was a classic Maxim. Hope you can at least replace the main and the rest of the rig is still in fine shape.

  • This has nothing to do with the aerial. Low angle, ladder pipe and two people on it. Simply overloaded. Guys are lucky that this wasn't worse. Hope everyone a speedy recovery

  • Good question and especially when times are tough. I've never seen one twist like that.

  • Im wondering if this ladder origionaly had a monitor on it or if it was added to the truck later. I see in the pictures the LDH going up the ladder like maybe this was just a ladder and not ment to be used as as arial. Just wondering if this ladder was rated to have the pressures that a monitor puts on an apparatus.
