certainly "smaller government" is a conservative principle, for reasons i've hinted at below. much as "socialism" is a goal that defines the liberal agenda.
i shall google the bathtub thing. i still maintain that big gov't is a disaster for this country, no one has to go out of their way to help make it fail. try googling "ronald reagan" lol
If you did some research on conservative strategy, you'd learn that people like Grover Norquist seek to reduce considerably the size of government. Their method is to underfund every government agency when they are in power, and to resist every Democratic measure when they aren't in power. It's no secret. Google "small enough to drown in a bathtub.." You'll find Gover Norquist's name and eventually find what I'm referring to. I agree rank-and-file gov. employees aren't involved.
dig? i've worked for the government, i have many friends who have too. i've worked in education (california), i've been in the military, contracted services to the military, worked with various public servants. surprised? right.
government in this country is a mess, no one is trying to screw it up to prove a point. it is what it is & Obama & crew are too inexperienced, too underinformed, and too naive to fix it, they can only succeed in making it worse on their current course
We are the government. There are sensible fixes. But the extreme Right wants you to believe otherwise. They have been working for 30 years to ruin government in order to prove their case. Why else did Dubya appoint a horse expert to be the head of FEMA? They wanted it to fail so they could say "see, government doesn't work." I suggest you dig into this subject. You might be surprised.
well, maybe it's THE US Government can't do anything right, then. we've finally reached the point where Social Securtiy and Medicare are unsustainable, forever piling debt on future generations, frought with fraud & inefficiency. also, look at our public education system. many other countries can make government work, here we somehow can't...politics, lawyers, slimy recipients of benefits/services, whatever
I was merely pointing out that democratic socialism isn't Evil, but rather it is rational and civilized, as opposed to draconian and too expensive, given what we're getting, which is fine IF one is wealthy enough to drop half a million on an operation when necessary. The canard that "gov. can't do anything right" is simply Right wing propaganda in service to the Ultra Rich who naturally prefer the status quo. Who wouldn't? Let's be aware of what is real and what isn't real..
very few people believe those words, promises that were made long before the Health Care Bill was actually debated. in that You seem to imply we are headed for a 50% tax rate, i guess you don't believe it either.
and i suppose that if the USA could somehow kick out about 100 million non-producers and illegals living here, european style socialism might actually have a chance
"Revenue neutral" means that the money saved will negate the money spent. As to taxes, those making over $250,000 a year will see higher taxes, and the Bush tax cuts will be allowed to end. Democratic Socialism works fine in Europe. They pay 50% in taxes, but they receive complete health care, education through Ph.Ds, and receive unemployment compensation and retraining. It's a civilized approach which would help us all, while not stifling innovation. My Best.
