Resident Alien: JEER NOT! FEAR NOT!

A "boisterously babbling behemoth" of rhymed lyrical poetry as dramatic interpretation, "JEER NOT! FEAR NOT!" is a boldly affronting appropriation of the "FREAK" circus sideshow motif & symbolism.

This monologue, presented as Scene IV of RESIDENT ALIEN: the 2010/11 Sins Invalid Artists In Residence (A.I.R.) Performance (January 28, 2009 at Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, San Francisco, CA USA), is a wonderfully whimsical, often better naughty than nice, beaming, bawdy AND TOTALLY QUEER -- No matter what "straight tightrope I'm walking!! -- autobiographical proclamation of my own sure right no longer to be stared & smirked at or conspicuously studied as an oddity of nature.

No more odd am I than the boyishly mimetic figure of John Merrick in Bernard Pomerance's ELEPHANT MAN; yet all the more magically astounding & mesmerizing am I than -- OH! Say, "Houdini!"

On the night of this performance, our ASL Interpreter asked me what my monologue was about: "What's the gist of your story?" Coincidentally, I could not give her an answer flat out. "Aren't you supposed to have a story to tell? Isn't that the foundation of all great theater?" she prodded me with questions (synopsized). And, I didn't have a response for her then.

Maybe, it was a simple case of being present, albeit absent-minded, in the moment? Or maybe, this is all a case of bad, faulty theater?!! I don't know. What I do know is that I have discovered my own unique aesthetic that stands apart, disjointed, from mainstream dramatic literature & storytelling. Does that make my theater -- my story! -- worth any less to be told? I sure as hell hope not! Because, I plan on continuing this drama well into the years of my later life. God willing!

Special thanks to those dear friends of mine who came out to see the show and to support their superstar celebrity monstrosity: Matt(e)o | QHereKidSF @ 1/3Life TRY!UMPH!! You know who you are...

Respectfully submitted,
