Hi-Railer activates crossing gates 7-10-09

I don't usually film trains, so DO NOT subscribe if you are hoping for more train related videos, my primary interest is the solid waste industry, so trains will be rare at best.

I saw this in Titusville, FL on the SR-50 railroad crossing. Thought that it was interesting that this tiny hi-railer triggered the gates... I think the gates were down for at least 2 mins after the truck cleared the crossing... I should have filmed the line of cars that were waiting. Many people got irritated and made U-turns to get out of the line.

As you can see in the video I had to move a couple of times to get the entire gate closure. The first time, some guy in a pickup truck, looked like a contractor pulled up on the grass right in the middle of my shot and parked blocking the crossing. I moved again and a car pulled up behind me, so I moved again. The final shot was filmed in the driver side mirror of the car. Sorry I couldn't make it one continuous shot.

Wow that's neat, they went down much later than usual though so you wonder if there's some other way to trip them...he probably stopped a ways down the line though, being the reason for the gates staying down for so long afterwards....lol!

LOL I didn't even think of that! I would have looked down the tracks just to see.. well if I see something like that again.. I'll have to look next time! Thanks for pointing out that possibility!

I have seen larger trucks on rail in person! I also heard that some of them are powerful enough to pull like up to 7 or 8 railroad wagons at highway speed!

I was shocked to see one using the crossing like that. I rarely see these in person.
