Caledonia is the Latin name given by the Roman Empire to a northern area of the island of Great Britain. The name represents that of a Pictish tribe, the 'Caledonii', one amongst several in the region, though perhaps the dominant tribe.
The modern use of 'Caledonia' in English and Scots is as a romantic or poetic name for Scotland.
'Scotland' itself is derived from Scotia, a Latin term for Ireland (also called Hibernia by the Romans), from which the Scoti peoples originated

@TheHibeeboy How did you work that one out? When did you last qualify for a major tournament? 1998, England was last year. England are about 50 places ahead of you in the FIFA rankings, 50. And who will be qualifying for Euro 2012? England, enjoy watching a Big Brother next year.

Hey come one, I am an Englishman, but we should all know that is a bit of a generalisation. Some English 'sub groups' are so different, they may as well be on different continents. I love Scotland, being a refuge of the wilderness and the true. England is overrun with the real enemy - illegal immigrants and 'legal' ones that are hardly so. I do love england though, but I love BRITAIN most. Scotland and England should be one and the same. We are small enough together, let alone, divided.
Who is it that's singing Caledonia in this video? I like the version a lot.
