@SexyAmbberi Hi Amber. I thought I'd just check you out. I'm a lapsed catholic too as well as being a Dead Head !! You are my dream. How do I email you ?
I sure am glad to know at least ONE other person has noticed and appreciated Phil Lesh's huge part in the structure of EOTW. IMHO, Phil's flying bass line is what propels this song into a GD "Classic"
@migca You're welcome. Like I say you (or rather I) rarely notice bassists but EOTW even with Jerry's BEAUTIFUL guitar would be a very different song without our Phil. Have you ever listened to Phi's bass on Dark Star from "Live Dead". Something else. It just goes perfectly with Jerry's guitar. That is some piece of music. Talk about inspired.
@migca Don't you find though that it's not at all easy to make out Phil's bass on this version of EOTW ? It's a GREAT version this but it seems to be drowned out by all the other instruments. Not complaining but I think there are plenty of GD songs (studio or otherwise) where it's very easy to make out Phil's bass.
First response: regarding rhythm sections in general, my ears only seem to notice bad drummers or spectacular bassists. When these guys do their jobs well, they're the overlooked backbone of most bands. Unfortunately, it seems they mostly stand out when they screw up.
Next: although many performances that would otherwise be unknown to most are now easily viewable, the devil's deal with YouTube is tolerating mostly mediocre (or worse) audio and video quality. Phil's in there somewhere...

Thanks for the back up, Poltergeist!
