Deutsch ist (nicht so) Schwer; German is (not so) Hard

It probably takes much time for most people (unless they have an innate talent for it) to learn a language. Especially if your starting late in life. Obviously my German is not anywhere's near approaching perfect or fluency (noW that I'm actually living in Berlin it may speed up the process), but still, I think I'm kind of disagreeing with how incredible difficulty everyone seems to say learning German is. Not that it's a walk in the park but just not hard as they say.

PS- for the picky analyzers, yes, I know I pronounced ziemlich wrong LOL :-)

By the way, you're doing a typical mistake.

You can't translate "They are saying" into "Sie sind sagen"

Just say "Sie sagen (,dass...)"

Nimms doch einfach als nette Geste, bzw. Kompliment. Wenn jemand sagt:"..Deutsch ist eine schwere Sprache..und Dein Deutsch ist sehr gut.." , will niemand sein Ego bürsten, sondern ist einfach nur freundlich.

Also ICH fand klingonisch auch schwerer als Deutsch ;-)

I think what most of the guys who said that german is so hard don't mean the german vocabulary that is hard to learn but the grammer. Most of the german people can't speak grammatical corect german (sometimes including me). There are just to many rules (way more than in english). But you're right. There are way more harder languages to learn then german. I mean the japanese or chinese don't even have an alphabet. That must be hard to learn ^^

id consider german to be the second hardest germanic language to master, or third, if id took faroese into consideration aswell. but then again, english is germanic too, and as he pointed out, based on this, they are actually quite similar. yes its really hard to learn, but maybe not for native english speakers

ps: sie haben eigentlich recht. die deutsche sprache ist nicht schwer. sie ist allerdings schwer, wenn man das system der sprache nicht versteht, beziehungsweise die AUSNAHMEN nicht kennt(man erlernt sie nicht, sondern man gewöhnt sich es an)

the grammar is horroble. die grammatik ist grausam.

die fälle zum beispiel: (1.fall das jahrundert, 2.fall des jahrhunderts, 3.fall dem jahrhundert, 4.fall: den jahrhundert.... 1.fall: mein, 2. fall: meines, 3. fall: MIR, 4. fall: MICH.), höflichkeitsformen(man spricht "du" als "sie"(mehrzahl, plural), satzbausteine(wann welche art eines wortes an welche stelle kommt).
