I'm just now getting into XTC and they're freaking awesome. Melodic, with interesting chords and arrangements, and very angular rhythms. The singer also has an AWESOME voice, a rock-and-roll wail with a soulful tinge to it. Check out the chorus of this song, where he abruptly switches mode from major to blues scale! it's so good!

Anyway I hope you enjoy it. It was fun to record.

1. Drums
2. Rhythm Guitar
3. Lead Guitar (with slight digital delay added)
4. Fretless Bass
5. Lead Vocals
6. Backups

  • If there was one complaint about the compositions it that often the music can doesn't breathe..the melodic phrases are too packed together.

Here you cover Earn Enough For Us very well...a little more of the blue collar treatment it always deserved..I think that it is better than the Skylaring version, in all honesty. In any case, I've shared it to my friends. Best, -J

  • @nimzodis Thank you! I guess the music is a little dense, composition wise, but that doesnt bother me. I like the variety packed in to that album (thats why im more a beatles than a stones fan.)

And the production is very good on the album, but I guess some of the rock songs would be a little more fun if they didnt feel so clean and shiny- thank you for your compliments!

  • @AskYourDoctorMusic You're most welcome. .. By dense, I do not mean that they should simplify! Nor reduce the number of inventions. Rather, I think the songs should scatter a measure here or there of space.. to allow contemplation, and breath. Ahh anyway, I'm a big fan of XTCs music (and the Beatles BTW)

  • @nimzodis Hmm, I can see that. I love skylarking but then I bought black sea and I'm not too fond of it. What album of theirs should I get? I've heard "Drums and Wires" "Oranges and Lemons" and "Wasp star" are good- thoughts?

  • @AskYourDoctorMusic Thats the only album I own. I've listened to them a bunch from youtube You know, record Senses Working Overtime. That was a great pop song. Write anything yourself?

  • @nimzodis yeah I do actually. Check out my profile, I've uploaded a few, I have more at Askyourdoctor.bandcamp.com

Beatles and XTC are important influences of mine, I like their approach to melodies and arrangements, so maybe you'd like my stuff.

  • @AskYourDoctorMusic Get "Oranges and Lemons" and "English Settlement" if you haven't gotten them already.

    Great cover!

  • I always loved this song and the album from which it came, but I have never liked the recordings in that album...always something just a bit annoying about them. I know this for true because of the number of people I have tried to convert with this album; people typically respond with descriptions like, "annoying." This has always frustrated me because as musical compositions they're often on the brink of true brilliance, and always really good.

  • "Rock Band"... but good effort.

    Greetings.

  • I got into xtc in '78! Good effort- try covering 'Stupidly Happy' from 'Wasp Star' maybe? Good luck.
