The Farmall H powering the Belsaw saw mill. As you see at the end of the video, I ran into some problems. The tractor has some issues that are making it impossible to use safely with the saw mill. The governor weights are all worn out, the oil pump pressure relief valve is stuck, and the plugs foul out after burning a gallon of gasoline. Sadly, I can't get it out of the way until I cut all the wood surrounding it. So I will have to run the buzz rig on the belt long enough to clear the piles out. Then I can drive in another H to replace this one.
Still its a steep learning curve and pretty discouraging. This mill is far out in the bush, at the end of a long logistical supply line. Screwing around all day for a token pile of wood and a couple of slabs isn't my cup of tea. I think it going to take some stubborness to overcome all the obstacles.

  • Finally getting the bugs (mostly) out was nice. I have one of those Belsaw mills. I ran ropes over the saw to the pto control (luckily on the steering console of JD4030) so I could start and stop without running around or over the mill. Thanks for putting up the video :)

  • Today I rigged an overhead throttle linkage that allows me to control the engine speed from the carriage lever. I also put on a return spring on the governor linkage that tightens up the linkage and keeps the RPM from wandering. The oil pressure issue...I punted, and routed the oil pressure guage feed line into the oil fill cap. So the oil just runs into the fill hole. So far its working great and tomorrow we are planning on working it all day.

  • NICE !! the plunger on you pressure relief is stuck in.

That mill will 1/4 saw a MONSTER log with very little waste.

Nice rig Bruce. WAY faster than a Bandmill

  • nice headsaw . lol dont forget those dogs man. ive seen logs go airborne before. be safe and have fun!
