This is an underwater video of seven (at least) humpback whales I videoed in Moorea French Polynesia on Sept 13, 2006. They were within 40 ft of us while we snorkeled with them, they were all about 50 ft long or so. The water depth was 400+ ft. I used the Olympus 720 waterproof digital camera. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to swim with these awesome cetaceans, which oddly seemed very interested in deeply circling our small white-bottomed boat. You can hear the whale noises in the background.

  • no offense but the only thing i really heard in the background was you darth vader

    good video none the less

i was snorkeling in australia and there was a school of fish

then they scattered as a pod of humpbacks came in

  • Too true, I was snorkeling without fins trying not to breathe, you should see the 50+ high resolution photos I took. You'd be breathing hard too if you were swimming 30 ft from grey hound busses, that is how big they appear.

  • omg thats incredible. im going there next year i'd do anything to experience something like that when im there

  • At the Sheraton in Morea, contact Pauline. Her husband Calixte offers tours, he will bring you there. You must go in Sept.

  • No, even few free divers can snorkel to 400 ft. I said they were swimming down 400 ft in the water and then back up to the surface. We are in 400 ft of water or so.

  • yes KLN003 but there are also good dive stories on the net too. type dive stories into google. My favorite is the myscubastory site, as it has real stories n videos n photos too. The myscubastory site should come up if you type "dive stories" in google . Enjoy

  • Delightful - They're flying!

  • Amazing!

  • Same , my friend is puzzled by why I am scared of whales , i don't know why , but it could be due to there size and mysterious behaviour :/ and yes whale noises are freaky.

Amazing how you can do this ggbernard

  • Wow, how do you get them to circle you, like that???

  • i love to swim but if i saw them and heard there noises it would be very scary for some reason whale noises freak me out

  • I am so jealous! I have seen them once in Vava'u tonga but never so many underwater. you are very very lucky.
