Am I weird then for playing my games and then not selling them because I might want to play them again in the future?
Also I buy used games, but I only get ones that are a generation or more old. I mean I don't think Nintendo will mind me buying a used copy of Pokémon Yellow at this point in time right?

did i hear the cameraman belch at 12:20?!!!

I've heard this argument many times before, but I think it's just ridiculous. Many things that people buy, cars, dvds, cds, books, all of them are often sold used. Hell, libraries allow you to take out books for free, but I don't see anyone saying that it's ruining the book market. The fact is the rest of the market has to deal with it, the video game market will get used to it.

I don't remember watching this episode but I know I must have since I have been adhering to these suggestions for about a year now. I haven't done the UPC code hunt thing yet...but ya know what? I have some games that I've been wanting for a bit that I can check on.

Probably my favorite episode that I've seen.
There was actualy a employee of the gamemania (dutch equivilent of gamestop) and he actualy suggested to return the game I just bought when I finish it...
When I said that I am a collector and I won't return it he looked at me like I was retarded.
I found a website that sells used games too (I only buy used last gen games though), but they are quite overpriced and there for I only use it for the old stuff that the big chain gamestores don't sell.

What about Games stores which soul business is buying and selling used games? Here in England we have a chain of independent stores known as CeX which entire business model revolves around buying games, movies, electrical equipment etc off a customer and selling it back to another, Nothing new. it is a lovely little store which even excepts charity donations as a method of payment and allows more obscure titles and imports to get recognition. Do you really think that something like this is bad?

That all said, I'm OK with point #2 and #3, though.

This is such a bad, bad idea. Let's elaborate. Are you saying buying second-hand books is destroying the book industry? Second-hand cars? Second-hand white goods? Second-hand anything?! No, the problem isn't retailers, it's the push for greater spectacle and bloated budgets. The problem is an ultimately unsustainable business model on the part of the games industry.
Now, I almost always buy new, and have never sold games on, but that doesn't mean secondary markets are wrong.
You've stumbled upon the right idea, but it has nothing to do with GameStop, or monopolism.
I live in Ireland. Over here and in the UK, GameStop competes with GAME and Xtra Vision. And you know something? All of them buy and sell second-hand games, including those obscure only-gamers-know-it-exists games. Despite this, the situation is much the same.
The problem isn't a monopoly. It's the second-hand market. And that's why I see online purchases as the way of the future.
