Barbara Bates is a fashion designer with a mission.
She wants to educate the public about the plight of her son, Kristopher Davis, who is serving a 19 year sentence for conspiracy to commit a crime. His sentence is a mandatory minimum, which is determined by the charge and transfers some power from judges to prosecutors.
On May 28, Ms. Bates hosted an event at her shop that featured interesting testimonials from those who had served mandatory minimums. The president of FAMM (Families Against Mandatory Minimums), Julie Stewart, was also in attendance.
