The opening scene of "Excess Baggage", starring Alicia Silverstone, Benicio Del Toro, and Victoria B.C.'s unique Johnson Street Bridge. "The bridge was why the producers decided to shoot here after scouting locations in Vancouver and Portland, Oregon, said associate producer Casey Grant." (Times Colonist, August 30 1997, page 1)
The blue bridge, built in 1924 and designed by Joseph Strauss (chief engineer of San Francisco's Golden Gate) is the only parallel-spanned Strauss drawbridge in the world. Sadly, this landmark may soon be destroyed. For more info, see www.johnsonstreetbridge.org
