mario had just come from mississippi during the civil rights struggle, he was trying to help blacks activists get black people registered to vote. him and two others were attacked while doing so. i think too he went to central america on a humanitarian mission and was deeply moved by the poverty there and the murderous things our government was doing in latin america. this is what the civil rights movement was all about.

Mario may not have gone on to be as prominent as a few others protesting corruption and evil but, in this one speech, he did more than 99% of us have done or will ever do in a lifetime. I say he amounted to greatness for having the courage to speak out as he did. Imagine the remaining 99% of us speaking out as Mario did, if only for a brief moment in our lives, how different the world would be.
