Sorry there is so much reading here, but those interested in knowing what this video is all about, please read on! This is a reprocessed and extended version of the original analog tape that was uploaded a couple of years ago which should now be much clearer to see. We used to live in a house with a large garden and plenty of outbuildings. Since the 1980s I had been enjoying the hobby of restoring classic motor scooters and microcars as back in the 1950s I had enjoyed owning several of these machines. Being in employment and having paid off the mortgage, there was sufficient money to fund these projects with the thought that I was hopefully building vehicles as an investment for the future. In 1997 the collection had nearly reached a peak and the local club had asked members to have open days so that fellow members could have a look around the various collections. This video tape was taken early in the morning of our open day .A year or so after this we received some bad news in that the Taxman had decided we should pay a large sum as inheritance tax on a distant relative who had recently died but in fact had not left us any money. We protested and had to spend money on legal advice we hoped to stop this happening, It was all to no avail, only now having to pay legal bills on top of the tax. So virtually all the collection and the trailer had to be sold.to find the money..We have since moved to a newer house in a nicer location upon retirement but with very little garden or storage space. We have also had to take on a mortgage again and rely on a pension for income so it is no longer possible to rebuild such a collection.
Having another look now at this tape during reprocessing gives me pleasant memories and satisfaction on what had been achieved. I hope you too will enjoy looking around at a pretty varied collection of motor scooters, some still awaiting restoration and a couple of microcars.. I did later manage to get a book published on classic scooters and microcars. You can see some pages of it in the video titled ROAD TAX DISCS, FURRY FRIENDS AND SCOOTER BOOK

  • I can only imagine what a great disappointment this must have been to you Mike, after all the hard work and effort you'd put in to growing your collection, However, memories and images are a wonderful way of preserving all that was good about the past, so thanks for sharing this with us...Bob

  • @robmasterman It certainly was at the time Bob The great unfairness of being taxed on money actually left to someone else is what got me really worked up at the time. Surely that cant be right. A solicitor initially agreed and spun us along for ages finally saying I am afraid thats the way the law is and here is my bill! letters to MPs the local paper and the tv program Watchdog got nowhere! i am so glad i still have the video and can see it more clearly now.

  • Sad case Mike ..Inland Revenue ...it is rediculas having to pay tax on something that was not yours in the first place. But it got you to move and from what I have seen a nice place to retire to. Pity about looseing your collecrtion, but you have the pictures and the memories.

  • @howarth004 There is good to be found in every situation if you dig a bit i do believe Dave. Thank you Inland Revenue!

  • Right there you have forever preserved on video, what rust and time may deny us, the privilege of looking at such beauties. Mahalo!

  • @hawaiisidecar I am so glad i took the video at the time, it has become a way for me to fully appreciate good times in the past.

  • @canvids1 Thanks so much Wayne, we have had many common experiences and it is good to look back on good times and revalue them.

  • I read your introduction of your video amazing and in your younger years and what you were into and what you liked. You had a great hobby and you should be proud of it.

We are lucky you and I mike that we are still here and as you know you and I have lost so many friends younger than us that have passed away.

I say sometimes how come I am still here and all my friends have gone and left me.

Even my wife left me and she was only 67! makes you wonder Mike thanks my

    far away friend Wayne
