Another gem from TV's golden age... way before Twilight Zone or Outer Limits there was NBC's popular Lights Out, which ran from 1949-1952. Low-budget stuff, with Admiral as official sponsor. Features spooky headles host.
There are at least 30 Frank Gallop episodes floating around. I haven't seen any LaRue ones as of yet and, of course, there in very little hope that any of the original 1946 episodes will ever turn up.
Some of the more interesting of the known 30 are: The Mad Dullaghan, Dead Man's Coat, The Martian Eyes, And Adam Beget, Cat's Cradle, The Meddlers, The Angry Birds, The Silent Supper, The Fonceville Curse, The Devil In Glencairn & Just What Happened.
Lights Out actually also had a brief (4 episode) TV run on New York City's local NBC station 1946. The first episode titled "First Person Singular" was about a man murdering his wife, the subsequent trial and his execution (by hanging). TV viewers saw the entire story through the eyes of the murderer (hence the title). The regular 1949 series ran for three 52 episode seasons (There were no reruns), the first regular season was hosted by Jack LaRue. the other two were hosted by Frank Gallop.
Ooooooh! Love Lights Out!! Used to watch Lights Out on the Sci-Fi channel before they had enough of their own lousey programming to fill the overnight. Think I taped a few. I'm looking now.
