I'm not advocating weed or denying it has negative effects, but most of them are attributable to the person who consumes and the way it's consumed.

THC in small doses works as an antidepressant, but if you take too much, you can get an averse reaction (increased depression/psychosis). It works the same for prozac, mirtazapine, xanax, wellbutrin etc. Just read any antidepressant patient info leaflet or talk to a psychiatrist and they'll tell you exactly that.

@StrangeYoghurt You might be right, but to me weed was definitively a catalyst for my depression and anxiety. I understand Devin's point. Having been off weed for almost a year the "fog" has definitively lifted in a way and I'm way more present in my life. Staying away from it works better for me

The thing with weed is that you need less and less of it to feel high. Paranoia only kicks in if you smoke too much of it too often.

He also must have been smoking street weed with low CBD/high THC content. If you get high CBD weed, you actually won't get paranoid or more depressed because that molecule inhibits those sensations (even if you're schizophrenic).

Weed can be of immense value to your life so long as you keep consumption in check and know what kind of strain you smoke.

Cool interview, I'm from amsterdam, so smoking pot was kind of part of puberty. Got loads of friends still smoking, but i quit like 15 years ago for the same reasons Devin points out right here. My friends are cool with it, and slowly more and more stop smoking marihuana, almost all are happy to quit after a while.

@baconpoptarts, try this: next time someone goes huff puff pass, say this: "no thanks man, i have some heart issues" and if they go "huh?" explain that you need to be careful with your bloodpressure for a short while. i do that, and somehow folks just go "oh ok" and are fine with me not smoking :D
