@blite13 Uh, first off show me where I EVER said Leonard was BETTER than Duran....I NEVER said that in ANY post...so stop putting words in my mouth....Before YOU talk about what I say please actually READ my posts...Your posts made Leonard look like he basically sucked...Outside of the 2nd Leonard fight, I actually haven't put down Duran AT ALL...Again, re read the posts....
@dreman1970 Ray was a very good fighter over a short period, Duran was a great fighter over a very long period. Remember that next time when you tout Ray as being so much better than Duran = simple. Ray did quit in his prime, a great fighter does not do that. Then he cherry picked Hagler when he saw Hagler was completely shot, tried to do it to Tommy but Tommy won the fight. That is not a great fighter = overhyped.
@blite13 Okay well, you better look at your post partner, cuz you said (and I quote) "he beat a 'over the hill' Duran 2x's". Okay you didn't TECHNICALLY say "washed up", but over the hill is darn close synonym...And as far as blaming Ray...I understand what you are saying..but did Ray shove all that crap down Roberto's throat?? And uh, when did I say Ray QUIT?? I said he RETIRED and unretired...
@dreman1970 Imagine Ray going into the ring with Duran with almost 80 fights? And Duran was the young guy in his 30th or so fight. With Ray moving up 2 weight classes to fight him....Ray would have been KILLED. Ray is overhyped by the American media machine, that same machine did everything in it's power to belittle Roberto and paint him as a cheater and a Charlie Manson type. And of course, all the American sheep eat it up like candy, glossing over the facts.
@dreman1970 I blame Ray, he had to use a strategy that placed the other fighter fighting at below his best. What kind of champion wants to fight other fighters who are not at their best? And pays off the other fighters handlers to rush him back into the ring not at his best? It's chickeshit garbage. Ray did it, cause he knew it would be the only way to beat Roberto. If the fight had been another 6 months, Duran would have been ready and we would have seen the 2 at their best, get it?
@dreman1970 Did I say Duran was washed up? NO I DIDN'T. He was late into his career, the same reasoning you use to blame Leonard's losses later in his career. Even though Duran was screwed by Don King and his own Handlers in New Orleans, he kept fighting, while as you mention, Ray quit. Duran redeemed himself, but he would lapse and fall into the blowing up in weight after fights. When he trained well and was motivated, he would win.
@blite13 Leonard had only 30 something fights but you forgot one thing...How many times did he retire for a year or two and then unretire...I know the story of the second fight...but Duran based on what happened AFTER that fight was NOT washed up...Ask Iran Barkley...Davey Moore...And as far as the 2nd fight..who's fault was that?? Leonard gets BLAMED for Duran not staying in shape??
@dreman1970 When Duran fought Leonard in Montreal, he was on his 74th pro fight ...and you say Leonard was washed up after 30 something pro fights? If you don't know the story of SRLvs RD 2...Ray says it himself, he wanted to get Roberto back in the ring as soon as possible. The reason = Roberto wanted to eat and enjoy what he had accomplished..Duran's own people sold him out and Duran wasn't in shape. Ray says it himself...so don't give the "why so different" bullshit.
