  • I will always remember this day, August 6, 1993. What was so surprising about this day was that no severe weather was expected that day, just rain and garden variety storms. But we had a tornado outbreak, in fact there was another tornado that hit near that area about an hour earlier that went unreported.

  • @MIKESOWELL There were 3 near or in Colonial Heights that day. 22 in all in VA and NC Most in VA.

  • @xpressva Hey was the third tornado the one that was spotted in the James River before it crossed on land? I remember that day but some things are getting a bit fuzzy.

  • @MIKESOWELL I don't know. The one that was the F4 followed the river I think all the way to Hopewell...

  • did anyone ever get the picture of the actual funnel cloud? and wow how different it looked in the 90's i was like 10 when this happened.....

  • @charmed2284 I saw on picture of what was supposedly that tornado, but I don't remember where I saw it...

  • This is an awesome video! I remember listening to my police scanner for what seemed like hours that day. I'd been taking a shower when the lights flickered, so I hopped out real fast and heard the siren next to PG Co. 1 go off. The guy across the street peeled out of his driveway headed to the FD. I remember PG asking if they could cut through Fort Lee to get around the traffic. This was my first brush with a tornado and I got bitten with the storm chasing bug. Thanks for posting!

  • I remember my dad and I were out car shopping that day in Hopewell when the sky got black as night. We passed by the Wal-Mart on our way home to Chester about 6 minutes before the twister ripped through it. Crazy to think about how close I was to it.

  • thanks for postin i was there and now im living in blacksburg va and had to go through this again

  • I remember that Wal*Mart being crushed...

Still the worst tornado to hit the Metro Richmond Area...

  • @xpressva Yeah, that's it. I will check to see the other one's path.
