Directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin
Vera Baranovskaya - Niovna-Vlasova (the Mother)
Nikolai Batalov - Pavel Vlasov
Aleksandr Chistyakov - Vlasov
Set during the winter of 1905, Mother is the story of a woman forced to take sides during a worker's strike... conflicted between the loyalty she feels for her husband, who is corrupted by the bosses to support them, and her beloved son, a worker whose cause she grows to sympathize with.
Pudovkin's film is considered a classic of Soviet cinema, standing along side whose of Eisenstein and Dovzhenko. Beautifully shot, he uses montage and metaphor to recreate Maxim Gorky's story of one woman's struggle during the 1905 Revolution.
great movie (although there is no excuse for the shitty soundtrack)
