We are reminded of the parallels to present day political realities when Jackson describes Reaganomics as "reverse Robin Hood". Even in 1988 we were bailing out banks and car companies. Another theme is "the poor work every day"

STILL, the best speech I've ever heard!
"Most poor people are not on welfare. Some of them are illiterate and can't read the want-ad sections. And when they can, they can't find a job that matches the address. They work hard everyday. I know. I live amongst them. I'm one of them. I know they work. I'm a witness. They catch the early bus. They work every day."

Though he like all men has had & haves his moments of simply fucking up; this moment in time for Jesse Jackson was bright & powerful. Some white folk could never handle their president having that much power over this nation.
Kudos to you on that day Mr. Jackson;this speech was live art to be forever appreciated in Americana's history.

The Democratic Party is a worthless organization. I painfully remember how they snubbed Jesse Jackson for the Vice Presidency, yet he still gave this historic speech in support of the Democratic Party. This is why he cried at the nomination of Obama. He knew that this man would do nothing in support of the poor and helpless, yet the people showed him unquestioned love and faith that he didn't earn or deserve.
