An AWFUL screen recording of Basilisk II booting on my Dell 4100 series. This is before really I knew how to screencast anything so the frame rate is awfully low.

Download the Mac 68k Emulator here
http://basilisk.cebix.net/

FOR a Windows port
http://gwenole.beauchesne.info//en/projects/basilisk2#downloads

And YES you will need your OWN System 8 cds... no you can't have mine.

  • hey, need help with my basilisk II emulator, when i boot into mac os 7.5 on it it keeps locking up...(it says "disk initialization failed because the disk is locked"), is there a way to fix this? is there a shortcut to unlock it like pressing any keys on the keyboard.......? thx. it unlocks for a few seconds when i press the enter key but it locks up again.

  • I haven't used Basilisk in years so I cannot help. Check the description links on the right. The forums at the sourceforge page are pretty active.

  • WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THIS !!!!!

  • Google Basilisk II

  • Hope it's not too stupid of a question, but on the Baslisk homepage which of the download links do you download?

  • I went to the site and it seems most of the original links (to get it to run on XP) are outdated and are no longer working. I would gladly give you this copy but this computer has long been formatted, sorry. Happy searching!

  • I can with Iso, By downloading a Program such as UltraISO or Alcohol 120 then moun the OS 8 Image using one of those programs. Then Go to BasilikGUI change the Drive letter of the CD drive to the drive that the image is mounted, then try booting it up.

  • I got a VGA adaptor for my macintosh IIsi. I might make a video of it on my new channel.WINANDMACNERD.

  • Wow! I can see why it was an awful screen recording! Great vid though. :)

  • Hummm Im Runing Os 9 on BasiliskII

  • @SPTSuperSprinter156 OS 8 and 9 were full of bugs and actually had several viruses back then right? maybe that's a reason those two aren't free either. granted it'll be impossible now to get a virus on a outdated os.

  • @johncenabektas What?

  • fake fake fake this is totaly porn

  • Mac OS 7 was probably the best back then.

  • @OwlMovieStudios

No, you need Sheepshaver, but since Sheepshaver *and* OS9 are both shitty programs, it will run for about 5 minutes before crashing, ad infinitum.

  • @EuroCarfan00

For something this old I really don't think Apple would give a rats ass. They let you download System 7.5.3 for free (which in my eyes is the best ever classic Mac OS, and on a real Mac, I have **never** seen it crash) and yet they won't release OS 8 and 9 for free either? OS 9 wasn't even worth any money in the first place!

  • @Blitzerboy1408

if I remember correctly, 7.5 doesn't run very well on Basilisk, it's better to run it in mini vMac or mini vMac colour. Basilisk II is great for OS 8 and 8.1, but sheepshaver (which is essentially a powerPC version of Basilisk II for running OS 8.6 and 9) is a complete friggin mess.
