speed limit .....the peace wants the speed limit followed.....55mph speed limit signs are posted all along freeways for a reason...for people to obey.....and the traffic isnt being obstructed its still moving at the legally posted speed limit isnt it?

The law is you MUST keep right unless passing, so no, you weren't obeying the law.

However, I do agree the speed limit needs to be raised. 80-90 would be reasonable for competent, coherent drivers.

I just did Montana to FL via NYC (had somethings to do out there). I drove 80 almost the entire way and got 31.9mpg averaged across the 3300 miles. On the way back I didn't have any deadlines and was taking the more direct route. I drove the speed limit (55-65) and got 32.7mpg across the 2300 miles of return. That's pretty insignificant. I don't think I caused any wars driving fast in my Corolla.

Write your senators is what you can do. Or complain to the police and demand they increase enforcement until everyone else complains the limit is far too low. Actually, do both.
