On a beautiful morning in the small community of DuPont, Washington, just outside the gates of Fort Lewis we shared a pancake breakfast with heroes. Military, police, firefighters, veterans, and civilians, young and old just spending a wonderful day filled with good food, fun and camaraderie.

DuPont is a unique small town made up of many military active duty and retirees. It is safe and the kind of community we all want to live in. The spirit of friendship and family thrive here, and it is a place I would seriously consider settling in.

A huge salute to the people of the DuPont community. Note: At the time this was shot, my son was a DuPont firefighter. Sadly, the economy took its toll and the levy failed in DuPont and other local areas. Beau and other young firefighters were let go. No grudges, just reality today.

And truly, days like this one remind us that it really is a wonderful world. lj
