  • I've been looking all over the internet for this song by Richard Harris. I played it to death in the late 60s and 70s.

When I saw there was a version by the Fifth Dimension, I scowled, figuring they could do no justice to a song that Harris owned.

Wow, was I ever wrong, and having egg on my face never felt so good. Billy really kicks ass in this rendition. So glad to have discovered it. I plan to play it very, very often.

Thanks so much for posting this.

  • @irishman48 I've also uploaded richard harris' version. just check the my channel or the video response

  • I haven't heard this beautiful song since 1971! THANKS FOR POSTING!!

  • @Noodleydoo Right...this is one reason why I will NEVER stop posting 5th Dimension songs.

  • @MsTexas73 It is a CRIME that most people don't know what a brilliant singer Billy was/is. Listen to his lead on this or Earthbound Prologue, Don't Stop for Nothing, Half Moon or even the softer songs like Leave a Little Room. Billy SOARS. Billy was second to NOBODY in the soul department. Too bad almost nobody got to hear him.

  • @MsTexas73 Hi Texy! I didn't know that but I'm not surprised. Jimmy Webb thought Billy was THE GUY who had the voice to deliver a hit single--in fact the other members had to practically beg to get solos with Jimmy at the helm! Apparently the record company hacks felt otherwise. Sad. You are not lying about "Half Moon"--Billy completely owns that song (anyone who thinks the 5th couldn't rock out need to hear that)! By the way--what Texas town are you from? Austin, here. We should meet

  • @Noodleydoo And there were SOOOO many Billy led songs that should've been released as singles and weren't. His version of "Half Moon on the Individually and Collectively album is KILLER.

  • @Noodleydoo That shou'd've been a hit for the 5th Dimension but at the time, the record company was adamant on keeping them a "group sound" and refused to releaseANY solo tunes as a single and Brooklyn Bridge got hold of it and took it to #1. Two years later HOWEVER, the record company changed their minds about solos and released Wedding Bell Blues which shot up the charts.

  • Got my cans on and this track is on repeat....Beautiful xx

  • Majestic, thanks for sharing!

  • Joe Osborne on bass - FYI

  • Some really "kick-ass" bass on this recording. Compliments the Orchestral accompaniment perfectly.

  • Jimmy Webb's composing; Billy Davis' voice...What a combination of talents. This song has always grabbed me in the gut. The girl's name was Susan; she was a flight attendant and Jimmy just wasn't good enough for her. It breaks my heart thinking of the pain he obviously felt.
