To be Irish you need to be born in Ireland. You can still be 'Irish-American', but you cannot be Irish per se.

Im irish Born Bread and i live here. We Irish find most Irish Americans really sad and annoying. Be proud to be American as thats what you are. Also so called IRISH AMERICANS DO U realise u can only come here on a 3 month visa .. and then you have to get out of Ireland and go back home again.. That the facts !!! Sad but true
