I always wondered why the character models in UT 3 looked like the ones from Gears of War . . . then I realized Epic made Gears of War.

Yes, single player = botmatch practice for multiplayer. But UT'99 had a feeling to it - a dark, gritty athmosphere that put you in as a gladiator in a dystopian bloodsport. I remember reading all the backgrounds for every single team and opponent in the original single player campaign. Each even had a (slightly, but back then incredibly) distinctive AI and you could end up loving or hating some of your opponents or teammates. UT 3 caused no such feelings, and felt less macho too

To everyone bashing the story: yes, it sucked, but when has UT ever been about having a story of any kind? Clearly, the writers at Epic can write a decent story, as evidenced by Gears of War. UT has always been about multiplayer.

Maybe cuz the old UT (99) and this one were both intended for internet play. The single player part is there just for the kids.
