http://www.streamingwell.com/obesity-medications-video.html - Obesity drugs and medicines can be used if a patient has not been successful at losing weight or if they are considered a high risk and need to achieve rapid weight loss.

In this video some of the weight loss drugs available from your GP are explored and the criteria a patient should meet in order to be eligible to use them. These drugs include Orlistat which is a type of lipase inhibitor. Lipase inhibitors achieve weight loss by reducing fat absorption in the body although there can be negative side effects if the patient continues to consume a high fat diet. As well as prescription Orlistat, it is now available from pharmacies at a lower dosage.

Warning:
The video also discusses Sibrutramine, sometime referred to as Reductil, an obesity drug which tricks the brain into feeling fuller. Sales of these drugs have now been suspended due to an increase in the risk of cardiovascular events.

  • I'm currently taking Orlistat. Can I take an appetite reducing drug alongside it?
