@phunkyphish1 i agree trey is much more of a diverse guitarist but eric clapton never said that. there are rumors about people saying that stupid shit all the time.

the number one thing that makes Trey so untouchable is his tone.. his tone is unmatched.. find me someone who can cover a phish song and get the same kind of tone Trey can? its the same thing that made hendrix so great.. another thing is his ability to improv melodic interesting riffs while jamming that speak to you. his composed solos are great too- just listen to the billy breathes recording or the original YEM solo. playing super fast and technical does not make a someone a great guitarist

@phunkyphish1 Clapton also said Buddy Guy was the best guitar player out there. Clapton ALSO said Jeff Beck was the best. The facts are two things - A) I don't care what claptons opinion is (B) There is NO SUCH THING as the best guitar player out there. Its all opinionated BS, and theres no way anybody is exposed to every guitarist to even make some kind of claim on who's the best.
