Sky News politcal editor David Speers speaks one-on-one with Paul Keating. In vintage PJK fashion, the former PM doesn't hold back on edging Bob Hawke out of the Labor leadership, the current crop of politicians, the Republican issue, Aboriginal reconciliation, and more.

  • Keating was absolute brilliance in Government, and yet Australians were blinded enough to elect that turkey Howard in his place. A great shame. A national mistake we are only perhaps just beginning to recover from - and perhaps we are still yet to begin that national recovery, time will tell I guess.

  • I can't help but think what this country could have been if Keating had stayed and Howard had failed. What a lost opportunity for us all. A once in a lifetime great leader.

  • @ausinous I am tired of this nonsense people have about Super dissapearing during the GFC, It is a long term investment, if as you approach retirement you are not moving higher and higher percentages of your super-fund into cash then you are just greedy and only have yourself to blame for any losses in the sharemarket over the short-term before you cashed out

  • keating was pure sleaze , his approval was even lower than gillard at her worst

  • I think an Australian republic has pros and cons, if we do introduce it it should enable us to pick the leaders of the parties like in the United States because its a democracy we shouldnt have to choose between two evils come election time. Also we should choose whether we can vote or not, its our choice. Voting isnt even compulsory technically you can donkey vote still

  • @brentoneccles great post

  • The greatest leader Australia ever had. Best candidate for 1st President of the Australian Republic. In hindsight, had Keating had his way and raised mandatory superannuation contribution to 15%, most savings would've evaporated during the 2008 GFC. Superannuation as it stand does not work.

  • you could speculate until the crows fly west for the winter but speculation is like religious faith.

  • @moo2thetube I would dare speculate that if it weren't for him you'd probably still be poor.

  • @SwdenJam Cos he actually had a vision for Australia and gave a stuff enough to actually get things done. To demand that a political visionary like Keating be humble is to foolishly discredit him for being a real leader, that he was.

  • keating an insult to this country and a GOBSHITE
