I personally prefer to use the piano and toy piano to keep melody and harmony... but yours sounds great! I never thought to use a drum as a tick-tock beat (even though I'm a percussionist T_T)

It seems to take a while for the system to recognize that you've added a friend. Also, you might want to confirm that you've both got video sharing enabled on the options menu.
