Cover of The Outlaws, written by Billy Jones. I pre-recorded a track of drums, bass and rhythm guitar to back my guitar instrumental.
I love this slow blues song and dedicate it to Billy, Hughie and the rest of The Outlaws band.

  • Just the best most wonderful instrumental of a song I didn't realize anyone else in the world loved as much as I do. I used to play along with it, the lyrics melancholic but the guitar work uplifting and profoundly moving. I hate it that Billy his depression led to suicide. If only someone could have gotten him on an anti-depressant, maybe he'd still be around to bring us musical joy. Thanks for posting this extremely tasteful and well done video. Bravo!

  • @jereuter01 Thank you...I love The Outlaws too ! This song seemed to be a good choice to do as an instrumental...and no one else on YT was doing a cover of the song.

  • Great guitar tone and very tasteful and musical playing, love the harmonics that sound together with your beautiful sustained notes, you know how to set your parameters to achieve great sound, important, nice walking bass, good work, cheers Vic.

  • @Jazzguts Thanks Vic ! I'm trying to develope an ear for choosing candidate songs to do as instrumentals.

  • Hey, thanks for the positive comment. I don't have any tutorials on YT, but I've taught guitar for over 30 years. Yeah, I'm old school when it comes to playing solos note for note...and this Outlaws tune gave me a chance to experiment with creating an instrumental verse along with Billy's solo. I'm presently working on an Alan Parsons Project song....should be out on YT in a few weeks.

  • Thanks - loved it . Saw the Outlaws over 25 times starting in 76. Billy was incredible, and what a great counterpoint to Hughie and his strat. It is burned into my brain (especially when they stood side by side trading, matching and syncing licks. Rip Hughie and Billy. Please do some more Outlaws covers Peter.

  • Thanks...

I thought this Outlaws tune would make a good instrumental. I love playin' Billy's solo. I saw them live in South Fla back in '76...They were very good...even better than their recordings.

  • @peterqb24 Did you do it? What song did you chose?

  • Great job. Nice set up - all your stuff has a quality sound.

  • Very nice! Love the Outlaws. RIP Hughie and Billy.

  • Always a pleasure to see and hear someone who's obviously lived as a lifetime supporter of the Outlaws put all those years to GOOD use. You are the Man! Do you do some of the online tutorial clips that I've seen? Sometimes if I don't save them, it takes me a while to weed thru the quagmire to find the version that I'm trying to show someone who's trying to learn a part. Don't you hate that? In the "old" days, you have a "Play It Like It Is" book, and if lucky, there are fingerboard charts.Dave
