ReThink Interview: Daniel Ellsberg — On "Smart Dumb People"

Daniel Ellsberg discusses the danger of intelligent people being influenced (or simply being) "smart dumb people."

In 1971, Daniel Ellsberg risked his freedom and his life by leaking a top secret report about the Vietnam war to members of Congress and various news outlets. This report, which became known as the Pentagon Papers, changed the course of history and led to the resignation of Richard Nixon and the end of the Vietnam War. Ellsberg is the subject of a new documentary by Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith called "The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers."

On September 24, 2009, I had the great honor of interviewing Ellsberg in Los Angeles.

We ALL appreciate you Mr. Ellsberg. Your integrity and courage to speak out and tell the truth is spite of the dangers, is what true patriotism is all about. It's not waving flags, honking horns, and putting bumperstickers on your car, it's having the courage to tell the truth even when it may cost you your life, liberty or subject you to criticism. You have inspired many by your actions.Where are the others like you?
