A closer look at my Lithgow-built Lee Enfield No1 MkIII SMLE. It retains the original features, including volley sights and a magazine cutoff. It was army rebarreled in 1935 with a heavy barrel for marksman use. This is the second in my series of videos featuring my rifle collection.

  • nice work! lots of interesting info on a fine rifle. I love the touch with the jar of vegemite spread on the table.

  • Thanks for the vid! I'm looking to pick one up myself. On a quest to find one with matching numbers and hopefully with a bayo to boot! That story with the volly sights was great, keep it up! Cheers!

  • James Paris Lee would be proud!

  • @NormanMatchem thank you so much!! your a PAL :)

  • @ChromeArty Same! Easy to meet more on canadiangunnutz. com. If you haven't been there, check it out. I bought just about all my firearms from fellow Canadians on that site. Enfields, SVT40, Mosin Nagants, K31, Kar98k, M1917, well you get the idea. That's just the military surplus section of Equiptment Exchange. If you want to collect old surplus, that's your best bet! Then of course there's modern black rifles, pistols, shotguns, antique muzzle loaders, blades, it's perfect for Canadians!

  • @NormanMatchem beautiful my friend :) nice to meet another enthusiast from Canada !

  • @ChromeArty I think my SMLE cost around 300 as well, the prices can vary quite a bit, the sporterized bolt actions are commonly found at $100. No.5 Jungle Carbines hover around 350-500 I find, but the 1896 No.1 Lee Enfield cost considerably more, naturally. Beautiful full military stock, mag cut-off, oil can, non matching but correct dust cover bolt, volley sights, and the bore is in great condition. Missing the cleaning rod but no matter, still a respectable piece of history :)

  • @NormanMatchem think it was made at Ishapore India. 1944. apparently that is. Getting it for 300 CAD and have seen the exact same rifle go for 575! can you believe that shit? they used to be 20 bucks in the 60's!!! she is in great shape too:)

Great deal on your bayonet man! ebay has lots of frogs for sale

  • @ChromeArty Right on, where was the rifle made, what year is it? Australians, English, and Canadians all used it in WWI and WWII, however us and the English moved onto No.4 rifles in 1941 I think. Aussies kept on with the No.1 Mk.3/SMLE, and I don't blame em one bit. Both remarkable, respectable, and extremily effective rifles! My 1917 wilkins (English I think?) bayonet and '42 mangrovite (aussie) scabbard came together for $100. No frog unfortunately but I'm buying one on ebay :P

  • @NormanMatchem I have it at my local store here in Vancouver. But it may be hard to find.

I'm finally, after a year of looking, getting my SMLE this Monday! :) How much was your Bayonet? I've seen them around $175! for Christ's sake!

17" eh! that is a short sword...literally! a jap tanto is about that long, and considered a sword.

Yeah, our history at war gives me goose bumps. Kinda sad to look at our fellow countrymen today isn't it? I almost wouldn't fight for them,
