If they needed heavy metalic things that can roll I'm sure they could have come up with at least a dozen things other then train axles.
Maybe they didn't think of the flying trains until in post and were just like "yeah let's put some SICK flying trains in the background before the car chase to show people that this is indeed the future"

@CzechAvailabilitie It takes place in the near future, so there are some limitations in technology.....and the train axles are there just for plot convenience.

I love this movie so much! awesome fing highway chase scene love this chase especially @ 1:25 amazing shot! this movie was very underrated, Michael Bay knows how to make badass action movies, thanks for this.
