A Ministry of Health film about smallpox. A small girl (unvaccinated) is infected with smallpox, recovers, but is marked for life. The film is an appeal to parents to have their children vaccinated in infancy. This video was made from material preserved by the BFI National Archive. • Since the Smallpox vaccine uses serum from Cowpox sores, sometimes, the Smallpox vaccine won't "take" in persons who have been exposed to Cowpox by working closely with cows.

That's what happened to my dad, when they tried to vaccinate him. They ended up giving him 3 doses of vaccine, none of which "took" with the customary raised scar...before they realized that he'd already been exposed to Cowpox, via the family's cow!

  • smallpox is worse. Smallpox was responsible for an estimated 300, 500 million deaths during the 20th century, TB might not kill you if you are lucky but you can get TB in the bones so you have things amputated. and messed up lungs forever........

  • Is that John Le Mesurier as the doctor? Cool!

  • which is wors small pox or TB

  • Fantastic
