My parents had this record as a 78, along with "Sentimental Journey." Loved them!

What a pity it's taken me 2 years to find you & your outstanding restoration work! Subbed instantly! My channel is an archive of a century of the best music on earth on over 700 playlists. They include 112 lists for every year since 1900 so this is now on the 1948 playlist. With 400 lists by artist, and 100 more by genre, I can sort my favorites for easy retrieval later & share them with everyone at the same time! Sent this to Stu Phillips - see my first 2 playlists if you don't know him! chuck

Ah yes, even all the way back then she really had ''it.'' And she only got better! Thanks for this posting!

I'm really amazed. I've known your work in other places (Rockin', 20x4, and the like) but what you can do with an old worn and scratched 78 is simply fabulous. This sounds better than a lot of rmasters I've heard from metal parts. Got any room in the Workshop for an apprentice?

Dear Mojo,
Thank you for your expertise. I think in your message, "You, said it all. Have many 78's and thanks to you we will be able to enjoy them more than ever.
Iris (The "I" Woman)

Thank you for sharing this wonderful music with all of us. My husband and I have a lot of 78's that need to be cleaned up.
Could you share a little bit of your expertise to clean them up. Les Brown and Doris Day were out of sight.
Always,
Iris (AKA Feisty Mom)

Hello, Iris. Thank you for the kind words. About cleaning up records, it starts with the playback equipment. I have a Technics SP-10 Mk II turntable, an SME Series IIIS tonearm, a Stanton 881S cartridge with 78 stylus, and an RTS Systems phono preamp. I record on Adobe Audition, and all the tools to remove the flaws from records are in the program. It has both automatic and manual declicking, and noise reduction, as well as a host of EQ facilities, but I don't use those much.

It involves several stages of click and thump removal - coarse, medium and manual - zooming in on the waveform in spectral imaging and finding clicks visually to remove, one at a time, until they're all gone. It takes a long time, but the results are worth it. Vinyl records aren't as hard, but 78s can be a lot of work, and you may never get rid of all the noises. This one is just an example of one that worked out well. It's amazing how much noise was removed without affecting the music.

Audition removes noise by taking a sample of a part of the record with no music - the lead-in and lead-out grooves, and removes sound from the wave file that fit the profile it took. It's very difficult to strike a balance between noisy and processed. Too little NR, and it isn't noticeable; too much, and it takes away more noise, but the music sounds smothered, and there may be unpleasant artifacts from the NR process audible. The more clicks and thumps you remove, the better the NR works.
