CHILDREN are precious.They DO require guidance & some punishment in order to learn proper values & behavior. However, "discipline" does NOT, NOT, NOT have to be violent to be effective. In fact, all that slapping, hitting, whacking & whipping children does is teach them that the world is unsafe & that their parents are people to be afraid of. "Spanking" is UNACCEPTABLE IN A CIVILIZED SOCIETY. I've 2 good, obedient teens who were NEVER hit. I've also a Masters in Psychology. Peace.

Legally, threatening, then inflicting physical contact (hitting) adult -on-adult is assault & battery & the law protects adults from it. WHY DO YOU NOT BELIEVE HELPLESS CHILDREN DESERVE AS MUCH PROTECTION? "Punishment" is necessary but does NOT have to be violent to be effective. @CMWangs2005 - Hello. I'm sorry for your pain. I, too, was beaten & tortured (usually for just being in the way). I agree that people who condone violence against children are not clear thinkers. Do you know about THE MORRIS CENTER FOR ADULTS ABUSED AS CHILDREN in San Francisco? Their website is filled with helpful information for we abuse survivors. They also operate support groups (usually very, very low cost) in several states & have an online support group. Best Wishes & Peace.

@WHHS2001 - Hi.If you want to let someone else beat you, that is your privilege. You do NOT have the "right" to decide the it's okay with you if children get whipped. Most children, even abused ones, love their parents. Often, the child hasn't done anything "wrong" at all. We got beaten black & blue for accidentally spilling milk. It didn't teach us to "never" spill anything. It taught us that mom & dad were people to be afraid of. Sorry. Sorry, it's NOT right in a civilized society. Peace.

I was beaten and actually tortured as a child. If I tried to get help nuts would say "a good spanking is good for a kid" even when that "good spanking left welts , burns,and black and blues.

People who approve violence against children are twisted , especially those who feel a need to arm themselves with a belt , or a spoon , or a shoe or Are they afraid that the 4 year old is too dangerous to handle without a weapon , or are they beating the child so hard they fear hurting their hand.
