@TOMHILLSVISION Not bashing Goju, as I respect that style very much. When you post something with that title, you are suggesting a comparison or contrast between both styles in a match. As you had said, the rules only allow you non-Goju techniques. Real Shotokan defense techniques (groin kicks, knee/ankle stomps, etc.) weren't allowed either. So, your title can be misleading. As you can see comment below (from groveavenue) , expect more viewer confusion.

It depends on the judging. For world class judging you aren't going to get any points from what is displayed here. The purpose of point sparring in Shotokan is to test your technique, timing, and power. You have to have all 3 to get a real point. In our university class every accident ended up with broken bones or someone making a trip to the ER. I myself had to have 2 surgeries because of accidents.

@TOMHILLSVISION Who won? Shotokan or Goju? All these arts Goju, Isshin, Shoren, Shito, Uechi, Kyokushin, Enshin etc etc all come from Okinawa right? Just wondering Anyway Okinawan arts are wonderful cause they have such devestatingly powerful attacks even in the MMA world its not wise to fight a guy who is conditioned in Okinawan Karate

I am a Shotkan practitioner, I think my dojo is under JKF, and I always love to see style against style, not to see which one is better but to learn something new,
anyhow point sparring its fine with me, we are not in war situation and we did Karate as a Martial arts - self defence.
I heard alot bout Goju-Ryu, as well as Pangai noon Uechi Ryu but never had sparring with it, because not many Goju-ryu dojo around
love to see it soft technique combined with hard technique
OSU!

They appear to be sparring in slow motion! I think the bigger guy was just trying not to hurt his opponent, so he slowed down.

Point sparring is ridiculous.

I agree, we only did this to see how we went on against a style that specialises in this type of combat. It's not our thing but if you don't test your stuff - how do you know?

Don't call it Goju vs Karate. In point fighting, both styles use same techniques, so its just really point fighting vs point fighting.

When you participate in contest fighting - you play by the rules. We were obviously not allowed to use classic Goju techniques. We simply did it to see how we would go on. Contest fighting is not our normal thing. However, we got to the final out of a large group of contestants.
