aus: Bunte Blätter Op. 99 - [Sorry for showing the wrong display of score (Op. 124) inside the video] I. Ziemlich langsam II. Schnell III. Ziemlich langsam, sehr gesangvoll IV. Sehr langsam V. Langsam
A genius was Schumann, who started a travel of exploration from a world of Beethoven to Chopin and Mendelssohn. Clara Haskil has interpreted the music as were it her own...
she plays the music c.q. it comes into being again in her playing. She works from experiencing the music during her playing. In this we hear improvisation within the score and within the shaping limits of the searching Romantic music of Schumann. Thank you for uploading this fascinating recording, berlinzerberus!
Not every pianist understands Schumann's unique world of poetry and fantasy....Clara Haskil was one of the few who did (Eusebius and Florestan!). And her recordings of the "Abegg" Variations and the Concerto are among the greatest ever...how I wish she'd recorded "Carnaval" and "Kreisleriana" too!
