At the very last stop on the D train subway from Manhattan is Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. Tourists know it as a mecca for ferris wheels and merry-go-rounds, but it is also a place where sideshow students come to train. Here's more.
STORY:
New York's Coney Island is famous for its old fashioned Wonder Wheel, but it's also a training ground for sideshow acts. Cathy Pratt came all the way from Oklahoma to the sideshow school to learn, among other things, how to eat fire.
[Cathy Pratt, Sideshow School Student]:
"I absolutely love the fire breathing and the fire eating. The danger is what makes it exciting."
Here, a teacher with a dangerous name, Danny Vomit, demonstrates the upside-down straight jacket act. Students pay 600 dollars for the week-long workshop. Joshua Morris enrolled simply because wants to expand his repertoire as a performer.
[Joshua Morris, Sideshow Student]:
"I'm already a fire performer. I've been performing fire for almost four years now, and I really want to expand my show."
Not exactly the greatest show on Earth. And no, these aren't parlor tricks you want to try at home, even if you think you've nailed it.
They got Donny Vomits name wrong...
Im hoping to go there sometime within a year.
