In this video I offer you a product review/ tutorial for Kinky Curly's Curling Custard and Knot Today.
I bought my products from Whole Foods and if my memory serves me correctly, I paid about $22-23 for the Curling Custard and $12 for the Knot Today.

Kinky Curly Curling Custard:
"Botanical infusion of water, horsetail, chamomile, nettle and marshmallow, organic aloe vera juice, agave nectar extract, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin e), pectin, citric acid potassium and natural fragrance."

Kinky Curly's Knot Today:
"Organic mango fruit extract, organic slippery elm, marshmallow root, organic lemongrass, cetyl alcohol, behentrimonium methosulfate, citric acid, phenoxyethanol, and natural fragrance."

I also answer some random trvia about my hair in the subtitles of this video.

Part 1 focuses on application of the product to my hair.
Part 2 focuses on refreshing my curls and the aftermath of the product.

CROCHET HAT:
Bought from fellow Youtuber "PinkyD24"
She sells beautiful creations!!! Check them out.

CAMERA:
I'm using the Sony Super Steady Shot HDR SR12
I bought mine about a year ago and I use it for business purposes as well. You can find it online for $850 -$1000.
It is a popular camera, so it may be a little hard to find-I bought mine from "Abes of Maine".

EDITING SOFTWARE:
I use Adobe Premiere Elements v. 7.0
I bought it for about $120 and it was worth every dime since again, I make semi-pro videos. Adobe.com has sales every so often and I've seen it sold for as little as $50 on eBay.

  • OK!! I am dumb founded at how good your hair looks... A couple of quick questions..what does "transitioning" mean?? I have been using relaxers for about 9 yrs and only get 3-4 a year... Will this product still work for my hair?? I want to go natural but I cannot bring myself to cut my hair and start over... I have worked hard for my hair to get to the length its at (a little bit passed shoulders)...so what should I do?? Great Vid... o and FYI my hair when its wet is a natural wavy...

  • @hopeizbeauty

"Transitioning" is in between process of going natural from relaxed hair. It is when you stop chemical relaxers & allow you natural texture to grow out.

Transitioners have two hair textures on their head to care for.

Relaxers are PERMANENT. There is no other way to go natural other than allow your hair to grow out all over again. Some people transition for a long time, others "big chop" off their hair.

    It is your choice. :o)

  • @hopeizbeauty

Your hair texture is wavy when wet because the relaxers may not have broken all of your disulphide bonds (bonds give your hair its shape) But that wave pattern is not likely to be your natural, non-chemically treated texture.

You'll never know your natural texture until it has grown out a few inches.

p.s. Thanks for the compliments. :o) It has taken me *years* to learn to care for my hair. Fortunately, with Youtube, it won't take others that long!

  • As far as my hair goes... My new growth grows in pretty fast after a relaxer and I think if I work hard I can transition my hair but that will take serious dedication in my opinion... So I will try the Kinky Curl product and see where I end up..Thanks again...

  • @hopeizbeauty

Thanks for the appreciation. It really means a lot. I've put *thousands* of hours of my time into Youtube over the last 11 months--almost a year!

I should caution you that the Kinky Curly most likely will NOT work on your relaxed hair. It is designed to *freeze* your curl pattern in place, it does not create curls!

This is very important to know. I recommend that you borrow a sample from a friend. Or buy the smallest container available. Just trying to save you $!

  • Like the tutorial. Do you think this will work on shorter natural hair.I have been natural for nearly a year now. Thanks for the tutorials.

  • @hgunura

It will probably work best on hair that has grown out a few inches, I think.

Once it has grown out 2-3 inches you can begin to see a curl pattern in your hair (if it has one).

Hope that helps! (if anyone else knows from personal experience, please chime in!)

  • Hello there I have just started watching your videos I am amazed about how long your hair is. I want my hair to be long I am natural just started and I cannot wait to see my hair grow. Thank you

  • Thank you! I am going to try this product. I am brand new to natural hair, and I have been trying to find something to define my curls, but still allow me to have some bounce and movement. I'll let you know how it works for me. :-)

  • I loved this! I am so excited about trying Kinky Curly now!!

  • Thanks for sharing ! Enjoy your weekend,God bless.

  • Great review! You mentioned growing your hair out longer. Do you think that the Kinky Curly ingredients are healthy for your hair and will promote hair growth?

  • My hair is natural but I hardly ever wear my hair in its natural, kinky state. I have always had it blown out and worn straight (basically it looks like I still have a relaxer). When wet, parts of it are really curly and ends are super straight. I think it is because of the heat. That was a long build up to say, do I have to cut my hair to eliminate the straight ends in order to use this product or will the custard curl my hair? Secondly, would it eventually curl my hair with frequent use.

  • Hey Sis,

I truly enjoy watching your videos and find them very informative. I have been using Hair rules products and I like them but upon your reviews and results, I have ordered the Kinky Curly products. I am looking forward to comparing my wash and go results. Have you tried the Hair Rules products?

    Danielle

  • I just bought the kinky kurly custard, spritz & shampoo. I get build up after 2 days of use. Is it perhaps, I'm using to much of it at 1 time?

Perhaps, I'll try it again for another week.

  • ok I have a question, i typicall use MJ products i purchase KC products over the weekend to experiement but i am on the fence about using the custard because gels don't take well on my hair, have u tried and MJ products what are your thoughts? I love ur videos!!!

  • Oh! Additionally! Your hair looked great for the first trial and error experiment with Kinky Curly. I purchased it myself and will be trying it for the first time and as always your tutorials is great help :)
