The McGulpin Point lighthouse is located two miles west of Mackinaw City, Michigan, and was extinguished in 1906. The lens and lantern were removed, and the lighthouse sold into private ownership in 1913. The lighthouse was again put up for sale around 2005, and Emmet County purchased the lighthouse and property in 2008, with plans to restore and relight the structure and open it to the public. The Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association is proud to have been asked to partner with the County in this preservation project. As an early part of the project, a new lantern and gallery railing were fabricated by Moran Iron Works of Onaway, Michigan. The components were delivered to the site on April 23, 2009, and this video shows the lantern being lifted into position for final bolt-down at 9:15 on the morning of April 24, 2009. The lighthouse will be re-lighted at a gala ceremony which will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on May 30, 2009. The public is cordially invited to attend this historic relighting.
Great video! Thanks for posting.
