  • Thanks for the reply!

Again...great sound and sounds. I appreciate that you are making music, but more, you are speaking other things with your playing with the use of unique and different techniques.

Wals have such great sound. I am happy to have the ones I do. Truly great instruments.

One more question...what strings are you using and what guages? I use DR Highbeams, 40,60,80,100,120....the strings used so effect our sounds....

  • Andro, thanks for the comments. I don't know what strings they are because they've been on the bass since 1994 - that's the last time I changed them. They're roundwound and I remember a mix of gauges. Personally, I don't think strings make that much difference - hence my disinterest in them.

  • Great feel, sounds, touch, facility!

I have Mark II and Mark III Wal Fretlesses and they are all Wal, but I can't seem to get the type of sound that you have. I wonder if it is characteristic of the older 4-string fretlesses...wonder what the difference is in the pick-ups/electronics.

Did you use any effects while recording this snippet?

Would be great to hear more from you!

    Thanks.

  • Hi Andro, no effects or anything in the clip. Yeah, I'm also mystified how different Wals sound from player to player - for instance I can't get anything near a Mick Karn tone no matter what I do with mine. I suspect it's all a matter of how one attacks the strings. I haven't really played any other Wals so I'm not aware of any differences between the early and later models. Interesting...
