So clever and funny. Clearly the show needs to be cancelled.

I never noticed this on the original airing of it.

Wasting till I watched the Comic-con panel & they made reference to it & I of course youtubed it & came here.

Whoever noticed him the 1st time & put this together, genius.

...Except for the fact that they didn't plan this gag before season three.

It was confirmed to be a coincidence by the writers. They noticed the previous mentions of Beetlejuice in past seasons and THEN decided to do this.

AD, on the other hand, actively set up jokes that paid off a season or two later with an insane amount of effort and planning. The callbacks and foreshadowing in that show are completely brilliant.

This was a cool little gag, but AD's writing is on a whole different league.

I wouldn't say genius. It is however a funny, and pretty clever background joke they threw in there that some people might not notice

I can't decide if this or the brick joke is my favorite ingeniously subtle Community joke. For those who don't know: the brick joke was set up in Remedial Chaos Theory when Annie told Abed/Troy they shouldn't use a brick as a door prop because people could rob them; 16 episodes later in Curriculum Unavailable the COP tells them they shouldn't prop the door open with the brick because it was worth 60 dollars. That the joke is the literal embodiment of the Brick Joke trope only makes it funnier.

While Arrested Development was the best at consistently providing subtle background jokes, I have to agree with the previous poster. This is the most subtle, patient background joke that I have ever seen. The set-up spanned THREE seasons for a joke that was trivial to the story. Typically, Arrested Development's Easter eggs foreshadowed major plots ( wee brain, Buster "hooked" on trying to get plush seal, etc.). This joke didn't have such plot significance, but that's why it is so inspired.

In the last clip it looks like Beetlejuice walks past the window in the background, hah.
