At 15, I heard this album being played in a 'headshop' in Baltimore in 1966. It's still a stunning collection of songs.

I first heard this song on the beach at West End II on Long Island in the summer of `67 as I was reading "The Hobbit". From that day forward I always associate the song with "The Trilogy". There is something so Tolkenesque about the melody and of course the lyrics. The whole package is both haunting and serene.

Yes, I agree.
And I always thought there's some similarities with the subsequent novel "The Never Ending Story" by Michael Ende. The princess, the kids, a magic place, giant gulls, "There's sadness in the kingdom, make it go far away"..
