Jane Pauley's last day on NBC's "Today" from December 1989. Pauley replaced Barbara Walters at the young age of 25. After "Today", she went on to host "Real Life with Jane Pauley" that lasted only one season. She had better success as co-host of NBC's "Dateline" with Stone Phillips...from 1992 to 2003 when she departed to host her own syndicated talk show, "The Jane Pauley Show" that lasted only one season in the 2004/2005 syndicated season. Pauley left the broadcast news business for the most part until March 9th, 2010--when NBC in coordination with AARP announced Pauley will be a contributor for a new monthly series, Your Life Calling with Jane Pauley on "Today".. Part 1 of 4. (wikipedia)

  • @phillyvideofan -- The CBS promo was actually just on that portion of the tape...and was from WCAU Philadelphia...then, the tape went into KYW-3 (an NBC affiliate at the time) and this portion of "Today"...

  • This is so sad...just reminds me of how much our society has degenerated over the last 20 years. :( News today is CRAP. Infotainment is actually too good of a term for it.

  • This was back when "Today" was not a "show," but instead a serious news program. Note that unlike the recent overwrought, overproduced "farewells" on "Today," the tribute to Jane Pauley filled just part of the final half-hour. The world did not stop because a TV personality was moving on. There was not a parade of celebrities dropping by the studio. I think that Jane Pauley wanted this to be subdued. She is, as Willard Scott said at the end of the program, a "class act."
