Take a ride with me to the sights and neighborhoods of Da Nang, Vietnam. This ride goes over the Navy Sea Bee constructed bridge over the Han River and through the old "3 Corners" intersection. From there we go by the Esso Tanks and the original location of the China Beach Canteen. After that, we ride along the new Da Nang - Hanoi Beach road back to my street for gas.

  • Thanks for the great videos. I was MCB 128 and helped build that bridge.

  • @ickiepooo I drove over it yesterday but noticed they are building a full sized 6 - 8 lane bridge next to the old French bridge. The French railroad bridge is being taken down and suspect the CB bridge will follow it's fate.

  • @rb368370 First place I was stationed in Viet Nam was with 3rd Battalion 1st Marines. I rode over this bridge when it was first built in 1967! It was olive drab then instead of yellow. The old French railroad bridge? I'm surprised it is still standing, I never saw a train on it when I was there, I think it was used for pedestrians. I went to China Beach twice. It was small, just a few old French buildings. Beautiful beach, gentle surf. The roads were narrow concrete. Big changes.

  • @Antlers68 Both bridges will soon be hauled down. The old French railroad bridge may be gone now. I'll check this weekend when I'm home. When I was in and out of Da Nang in 69/70 I would take the bus to the NSA Hospital and it would go over the French Railroad Bridge. Until recently it was only for motorbikes while the SeaBee bridge was used for larger vehicles. Today they are building a third wider bridge adjacent to the French RR bridge and when it finished the other two will disappear.

  • @rb368370 Thanks RB. I'll tell some of my 3/1 friends about your videos. I also saw your Marine Corps Birthday video. Do you live in Da Nang year round?

  • @Antlers68 Yes but in reality, I work in Saigon during the week. Come home on the weekends.

Got any videos of a village named An Trac? How about Tu Cau Bridge?

Enjoyed seeing the area. Part of my youth but i wouldn't want to repeat it.

  • @ickiepooo The bridge was finished when I was with 3rd Bn 1st Marines. Today I see it is yellow, back then it was dark green. We were at the foot of Marble Mtn. We had a SeaBee Bn next to us but I don't remember the number. Later in December '66 we moved further out to the "Desert Area."

  • @MrAicuutoivoi But isn't it facing the South China Sea? That is where the name came from. Unless they have changed that too.LOL I was there in 1967, the Vietnamese didn't like the Chinese back then. And a lot of people could speak fluent French. I guess that has gone out of style. Nui Kim Son was just a small, dusty village then.

  • What were doing? testing the road smoothness?... lol

  • You are right! In Viet-Nam does not have China Beach. This is My Khe beach.
