Updated: today, November 29, 2007, Constitutional Court sided with the government -- while saying USSR annexed this part of Latvian territory illegally, the governemt and parliament was neverteless within their rights to give up the legal rights to this territory without consent of the citizenry...

On May 17, 2007, in contravention of two articles of Constitution and operative Article 9. of the Declaration on Restoration of Independence, Latvian Parliament ratified the Border Treaty with Russia, thus legitimizing illegal annexation by Soviet Russia of 2% of Latvian territory in 1944. The Parliament did so even while refusing to postpone the ratification of this 10 years old treaty for another few months, which would have enabled the Constitutional Court to render its judgment as to the constitutionality of this sordid and treasonous affair - prior to treaty becoming legally enforceable. The PM, Aigars Kalvītis of so called Peoples Party, perhaps inadvertently but still rather pompously, "spilled the beans" before the parliament: tomorrow is EU-Russia summit and current presidency of EU, German chancellor Angela Merkel, expects a call with at least some "good news". EVERYONE is expecting call from Latvia... To learn how "interested" and "involved" Ms. Merkel really might have been, watch this video...

Vācjā cilvēki albi dzīvo. Ja kas Latvijā ļoti daudz cilvēku nepārzin pat Eiropas karti, saderam, ka lielāka'daļa nezina'tu, kur, piemēram ir Slovēnija un sajauktu to, piemeŗam ar Slovākiju un tml. kur nu vēl tālāk, citi pat nezin, kur atrodas Latvija.

There is a document in which russians admit Latvia as an independent country with all Abrene forever and ever, but in 1940 they occupied Latvia and now they saying that Abrene belongs to them!
