Optimal Sound when viewed in High Quality ( &fmt=18 )...
The Superior Sound of the King's College Choir is demonstrated in this 1984 recording; the Class of 1983; Directed by Stephen Cleobury; this 1983 Class was the best-- in intonation, articulation, and ... just downright overall Sound! The Choir is great, the Organ is great, and the Room is great!!!

Thank You for listening!

  • To me, this is still the superior version, maybe because I'm used to it, but it's nicely bombastic towards the end. Me likey...

  • hehe. me likey, too.

  • The acoustic property of the building is what makes everything sound so good.

  • so correct. I wish my shower sounded like that.

  • beautiful

i have the cd "The Choirboy's Christmas"

speaking of "blending of choir and organ" as you noted at the end of this video. on "The Choirboy's Christmas", check out track 1 "O Come All Ye Faithful" you can feel the 32' stop strong during the chorus while the choir sings out "oh come", the organ seems to be carrying the choir, very beautiful. i'll see if i can get it posted. you need to hear it with a really good subwoofer to get the full effect

  • thnx 4 cmt. i'm not familiar with CD ur talking about, so hurry up & post :) on the current CD that i posted, they did good job of capturing the '32 Open Wood, and the '32 Bombarde, which is heard on some of the trax. I will try 2 post some more of this CD... I wish u had turned Bach's Pass. & Fugue into 2 videos so we could hear the whole thing-- that's a great recording!

  • almost like the angels from the realm of eternal glory singing at the birth of the messiah, heralding peace as well with the coming of the Prince of Peace.

  • csheff- you're definitely not goin loony The engineers, technicians, tape editors (probly was actually digital TAPE back then!) all did an immaculate job on this recording. Being an organ enthusiast too, I notice that you can hear the low thump of the organ mechanism when the organist changes the pre-set registrations (stops/voices of the organ) for the next verse, at 2:53

We always put this CD on right around now- the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season- Happy Holidays to all. Mike

  • @xyldinnc This is certainly one of the best carols around. I've heard it sung every year in York Minster and Durham Cathedral in their Carol Concerts at the start of December...if you get the chance, hearing it in a Cathedral/Minster is something you should not miss!!

  • it is so good and nice

  • I don;t know why I'd never heard this carol before this year. I'm 67 and that's a long time to be in ignorance. My God how beautiful! When I think of all the carols and choirs I've done over the years and this one has eluded me I feel cheated. I would have so loved to sing this in honor of Christ's birth. The Nine Lessons and Carols will be a Christmas anticipation I have for the rest of my life.

  • Happy Christmas to you all, FROM HAPPY MAN

  • Merry christmas

  • Saved to my playlist: "Christmas Classix!" - ethereal and absolutely awesomely ambient!
